Calling All Pipers/Drummers - Grade 5 Competition Band

Matt Kiegelmann

Next Wednesday (Oct. 1st) our competition band will have their first practice in preparation for the 2015 competition season.

Where: ANAF (7 George St, Barrie)

Time: 7pm-9pm

We are digging into our brand new set so the entire practice will be on chanters and pads.  Our well deserved break is nearly over, time to get back to work!

Cheers

P/M Matt

Kingston 2014

We are LIVE! Welcome to our new home!

Matt Kiegelmann

Welcome to the brand spanking new Barrie Pipes and Drums website.  This layout is by the far the best we have ever had.

Special thanks goes out to one of our pipers, Rob McGregor, who put this together in his spare time.  These sort of tasks are always volunteer driven and we are very fortunate to have such an amazing website designer right in our band.  Thanks Rob!

We will do our best to keep this site updated and add as much useful/interesting information as we can.

Cheers!

Matt

Band Practice at Barrie's Heritage Park

Peter Johnstone-Schulz

This past Monday the band held practice at Heritage Park, located on Barrie's beautiful waterfront.  The weather was great, 20 degrees with a wee bit of a breeze.  We had an amazing turnout of pipers, drummers, and our ever growing student body of pipe, snare and tenor students.

I sat with my pipe students as I do at every Monday practice, we worked on "The Green Hills of Tyrol", and I'am happy to report that its sounding great!   There is nothing better than having my students show up to practice, play what they were supposed to learn, and we get to move on to the next tune.

Once my teaching duties were done, I head over to the band and begin tuning drones.  The band is sounding great, and its a pleasure to tune right now.  Of course as the band plays the crowds start to form, joggers, cyclists, families out walking.  Every time the band stops playing the crowd rewards us with their applause.

Practice ends, everyone packs up pipes and drums, and some head for a pint at one of our downtown pubs.  A great end to a great practice, and the best part is we get to do it again next week!
