Barrie Pipes and Drums Beginner Teaching Program
Welcome! We are thrilled that you are interested in learning the traditional arts of piping and drumming. Our program is designed to take you from your very first musical notes to a level where you can join the band.
Program Overview:
The Barrie Pipes and Drums provides free lessons for beginners. Our goal is to build a strong foundation in the Great Highland Bagpipe or Pipe Band Drumming (Snare, Tenor and Bass).
When: Wednesday evenings during our weekly band practice. (band instructor to determine exact time)
Format: Lessons may be group-based or 1-1, depending on instructor availability and student volume
Instructors: You will be taught be experienced band member
Student Requirements & Equipment:
The student is responsible for purchasing their own practice instrument and music tutor books
Regular attendance and daily home practicing are essential in progressing to play the instrument
Piping students:
Provide their own Practice Chanter and reed
Acquire a copy of “The Highland Bagpipe Tutor Book One” (formerly know and College of Piping Tutor Book 1)
Drumming Students:
Snare Drumming requires Pipe Band Style Sticks and Practice Pad
Tenor and Bass Drumming require Mallets
Tutor Books: To be determined by band instructor
